Handbuilding Clay Vases & Bowls Using Leaf Accents

Glendalough State Park dining hall June 8, 9:30am - 12:30pm $65/$70 Member/Non-Member $60/$65 Member/Non-Member Early Bird (By May 25) Plus $20 materials fee payable to the instructor during class Join Terry Shaw at Glendalough as she teaches you to handbuild functional ceramic pieces. Students will make either a cylinder form or the more difficult trapezoidal form. You will learn the technique of form building with slabs and how to join the slabs together to make a vase. Then Terry will present a lesson with a "leaf" bowl as an option. |

Round Lake Studio (near Beach Bum's) June 15, 17 & 19 either 10-noon or 1-3 $150/$160 Member/Non-Member $140/$150 Member/Non-Member Early Bird (By June 1) Students will be offered the opportunity to learn through doing: students will be introduced to basic hand building techniques and allowed to discover that throwing clay on a potter's wheel is an acquired skill. These classes are appropriate for all skill levels, those who have never touched clay, those with a modicum of experience with this material, and those with a skill set. There will be two instructors: John & Terry Shaw Materials, tools and firing of any finished work will be provided. This is a 3-session class on June 15, 17, and 19 (Monday, Wednesday, & Friday) for two hours each day. (Choose MORNING: 10 am - noon or AFTERNOON: 1-3pm) Classes will be held at the home and studio of Terry and John Shaw under open air canopies looking out on pretty little Round Lake: 35646 Graystone Road. That's pretty much behind Beach Bums and very near the Corner Store, just off the southwest end of Otter Tail Lake. Additional materials available for purchase from the instructors. |

Mary Williams' Studio, Clitherall June 26, 9-4 and July 31, 9-4 (two sessions) $135/$145 Member/Non-Member $125/$135 Member/Non-Member Early Bird (By June 12) Clay and model costs are included in the class registration fee In this two-part class, we will first make a clay figure from a model on Friday, June 26, 2026. Mary will then fire your figure and on Friday, July 31, we will paint & finish it. Both parts of this class will meet at Mary's studio on Stewart Lake near Clitherall. Ages 16+ |

Open Ceramic Studio is a series of dedicated sessions for the community and AOTL Members to use the professional ceramic tools, pending a new location for our clay studio. Open Ceramic Studio is for artists to work individually on personal ceramic projects. Participants will need prior ceramics background, as no formal instruction will be given. Experienced ceramic artists will be available during the Open Ceramic Studio hours, for questions and assistance if needed. Equipment: Pottery wheels, bats, project boards are available. Tools are available for purchase or artists may bring their own tools. Limited tools are also available for use. Supplies: 25# of clay are available for purchase for $35 which includes the cost of clay, firing and glaze. No outside clay can be used unless approved prior to use with documentation of type and cone. We bisque at cone 06 and glaze at cone 6.
