Join Your Neighbors at Welcoming Week
​September 13-21 / Battle Lake

Event Details
This month, Art of the Lakes is celebrating Welcoming Week, a global campaign aimed at strengthening a community’s broader welcoming efforts by building bridges among the people and organizations advancing a more just society.

​Throughout the week of Sept 13-21, community members will have the chance to connect, collaborate, and build bridges through these diverse events:
  • Prairie Lakes Plein Air Exhibition of paintings celebrating the beauty of Otter Tail County (through Sept 28)
  • Community Zentangle Art Project for Art Alley
  • Woodstack with music by Darren Quam and friends
  • Heroes for Health & Safety celebrating our local health and safety professionals
  • Scavenger Hunt, a team event with prizes
  • Best Tomato Recipe Contest judged by local chefs
  • Welcome Table with info about our community & surrounding region
  • Heritage Potluck Dinner featuring family favorite dishes

Congratulations to the winners in our Prairie Lakes Plein Air competition! You can view all of the wonderful PLPA24 paintings at the Creative Arts Center until September 28, Tuesday - Saturday 10 am - 4 pm. Paintings are for sale.

Inspirations 24: Member Juried Exhibition

The Creative Arts Center auditorium will be filled with our members' work beginning October 4, as we host Inspirations 24.

This exhibition will be juried by Myron Sahlberg. A reception will be held at the CAC on Saturday, October 5 from 4-6 pm.

The submission deadline for artists has been extended to Wednesday, September 4 at noon.

Art of the Lakes members are among the most active and accomplished artists and art supporters around! Here's a selection of news about just some of them.

Mary Williams will be interviewed by Fargo Public TV this Fall. Watch their website for broadcast dates.

Story Fragments by Phyllis Joos is on the mezzanine level of the Edward J. and Helen Jane Morrison Gallery at the University of Minnesota, Morris. Now through Oct. 11.

The Red Door Art Gallery in Wahpeton, ND has their Rural Art Show up through September 28. Best of Show was Vicki Radel with her painting Morning Light in the Fog. First place winner was Grace Haverty for her painting The Line Up. Second place was Ruth Hanson for her painting Vista. 

Deb Connolly, Kerry Kolke-Bonk and Diane Trew are showing their work in the Meander Art Crawl October 4, 5 and 6. This event includes more than 30 individual studios in and near the Western Minnesota Communities of Ortonville, Appleton, Madison, Milan, Dawson, Montevideo and Granite Falls.

4 Points of Light (Calvin DeRuyter, Lyssa Lovejoy, Jackie Henning, and Stephen Henning) are having their last Open Studios Event on September 20 and 21, from 10am to 5pm. 

Stephen Henning has a painting juried into Dow Art Gallery’s end-of-summer juried exhibit Cabin  Art – currently on display through October 5.  Check it out if you’re in the Twin Cities.
 
Pelican Rapids Public Library has a selection of art by Stephen Henning on exhibit September through October, showcasing a variety of paintings, oil pastels, and limited edition prints.

Grace Haverty will show her fabulous flower paintings at the Kaddatz Gallery's Watercolor Group Exhibit from September 7 to October 19. A reception will be held Thursday September 12 From 5 to 7 PM. 

Ruth Hanson received a Third Place award in Class 3 (watercolor, gouache, casein and tempera) at the Minnesota State Fair with her entry, Have Ya Herd?
