2021 Prairie Lakes en Plein Aire
The Prairie Lakes en Plein Aire art series is a festival of art education, exhibition, and competition open to professional and non-professional artists of all skill levels. Enjoy your summer painting in the idyllic setting of Battle Lake, Minnesota situated in West-Central lakes country. Delve into the pristine landscape of gently rolling hills and fertile farmland amongst clear blue lakes and streams for an inspirational painting experience. Attend plein aire workshops lead by Lisa Stauffer and Grace Haverty among others.
Artists and collectors will enjoy many activities including the Opening Reception, en Plein Aire Competition, Workshops & Demonstrations, Quick Paint, and the Competition Award Ceremony. The concluding en Plein Aire Exhibition and Sale will showcase a variety of motifs and styles of artwork. Schedule of Events June 19, 2021 Opening Reception Beginning the summer-long celebration of outdoor painting, we invite participating artists and AOTL members to gather in the Art of the Lakes Gallery at this informal event. Artist participants can pick up their welcome packet, including a full itinerary, tips for how to explore Lakes Country, and information showcasing local businesses. June - September, 2021 en Plein Aire Competition Throughout the summer, artists will be painting en plein aire at 3 selected locations throughout our community and region. Visitors will have the opportunity to observe as the artists seek to represent the shifting light, extraordinary colors and textures of our rural landscape. Please be considerate: practice social distancing, wear masks if less than 6 ft apart and do not block entrances/trafficways to businesses. Selected locations yet TBD. Free to the public. Demonstrations/Workshops To explore a variety of “en plein aire” styles and techniques, artists & community members will have the opportunity to attend a variety of art workshops and artist talks with our featured artists. Each Saturday we will host a new visiting artist to teach under the tent in Railroad Park. The workshops are designed for both children and adults, from beginner to intermediate skills. More information will be available soon. Registration is required. September 25, 2021; 8 a.m. - 12 p.m. Quick Paint All participating artists can be found painting in front of the Good Samaritan Senior Assisted Living Facility on the west side of West Battle Lake for a group Quick Paint. This is a great time for visitors to ask questions and engage with artists (from a safe distance). All completed paintings will be available for purchase in the gallery. Free to the public. September 25, 2021 Collector's Preview / Award Ceremony Celebrate the culmination of our inaugural Prairie Lakes en Plein Aire with an exhibition of participants' artwork with an awards presentation and a recap of highlights from the summer. This will be a rare opportunity to view and collect artworks from prominent en plein aire painters at pricing that is approachable for collectors at any level. We are making plans for the event to be accessible to art lovers near and far. |
