Art of the Lakes
Board Meeting – April 9, 2024, 10:00 am – Creative Art Center

Our Mission is to develop, promote, and encourage an interest in the arts.
Board Members present: Kristi Kuder, Ann Smith, Judi Celaschi, Sue Kalseim
Absent
: David Beddow and Shari Prigge,

Staff Members resent
: Shanna Cramer, Debbie Ness, Makenna Tysdahl

Absent:
.Donna Westerling.

Minutes: Sue moved to approve the March minutes.  Ann seconded; motion passed. 

Administrative Report:
  no update

Financial Report:  Ann S reviewed the year-to-date financials with the Board.  A future financial meeting will be scheduled to review expenses.  Sue moved to approve the financial report, seconded by Judi.   The motion was approved. 

Old Business:
  • By-laws Revision:  Ann S presented proposed changes that need to be voted on at the annual membership meeting.  Proposed changes will be emailed to the membership two weeks before the annual meeting in preparation for the vote.
  • Annual Member Meeting: will be  scheduled for May 22 at 5:30 at the CAC - Kristi, Donna & Debbie will work on details
  • New Board Member Update:  Sue will assist with interviewing prospective members which are Pat McGovern, Vanessa Sellner, Kate Scherfenberg and Michael Burgraff.  Deb & Kristi will work on putting together a description of board responsibilities 
  • Galloping Goose Agreement:  The Galloping Goose has proposed doing lawn maintenance to reduce their monthly rental.  Makenna volunteered to research other options for lawn care.  Options will be emailed to the Board for a vote.
  • Fundraiser Update:  The Designer Purse Bingo event is scheduled for May 10 at Thumper Pond to raise funds for the summer kids' program.  John Walsh with the Lion Club is assisting Sue with the gambling requirements and raffle arrangements.  Twelve volunteers are needed to manage the event.   Shanna to promote the event via social media sites. Makenna is having a poster printed
New Business:
  • Leadership Retreat:  Kristi proposed inviting West Central Initiative, Kate Mudge or another  person, to discuss the responsibilities of being a non-profit organization and its benefits.  May 23 was suggested as a date.
  • A proposed fee schedule was presented by Kristi and Ann S  for those who choose to be members of AOTL plus subscribe to the use of the CAC.  A member could also select a CAC subscription by the year or month to provide access to the maker spaces.   This would also give the member discounts on workshops and events held at the CAC.   Need to research how it can be processed in Wild Apricot to collect the fee.
  • CAC:  the board reviewed a proposed $21,380 request by Kristi Kuder for purchases to be covered by the Blandin grant. Purchases include:
    • $3850 for printing a trifold mailer, $2400 17' room divider, $6250 Ceramic equipment, $4700 Electrical upgrade, $1580 plumbing upgrade, $1500 estimate for HVAC, $620 signage, $450 2 utility sinks.
    • Hours / Staffing:  Kristi presented a proposal for coverage by Shanna, Donna, and Makenna during the proposed opening hours.  Staff will meet to discuss further
  • CAC: We’ve received a bid for cleaning the public spaces at $50 per use and $25 per use for the kitchen.  The kitchen will need a deep cleaning initially. Service will begin May 1.  
  • Deb and Mary Williams worked with Kristi  moving supplies There will be more work days coming up.  Kristi will have Donna start looking for volunteers .  
  • Bids received for signage.  Kristi presented another option for signage outside the main door that would be visible from Main Street.  She will secure a bid for that option.
  • Ninja Anywhere Event:  AOTL will join LACC to support this event scheduled for May 25.  We will need volunteers to help kids make headbands with Sharpie markers
  • Milk Carton Boat Race:  it was agreed that  AOTL would sponsor the Boat Race again under Sue’s leadership.  Sue is going to plan some youth workshops making milk carton boats
 Committee Updates 
  • Art & Craft Affair:  on target for entries
  • Gallery:  The gallery will be closed April 22-24 to take down art and clean, and new art to be rehung on April 29.  Shanna will email the membership advising new art should be delivered to the gallery by April 26.  Volunteers are to be requested to assist.
  • Marketing: the focus is on the fundraising event and workshops.
  • Plein Air:  registration is open.  Jim Turner's workshop will not be during the event.
  • Studio Tour:  44 artists registered with 18 locations.  Shanna is laying out the brochure.
  • Workshops:  no update
