Board Minutes Mar 2024

Board Meeting – March 20, 2024, 9:30 am – Art of the Lakes Gallery
Our Mission is to develop, promote, and encourage an interest in the arts.
Board Members present: Kristi Kuder, Dave Bedow, Ann Smith, Shari Prigge.
Absent: Sue Kalseim, Judi Celaschi
Staff Members present: Shanna Cramer, Debbie Ness, MacKenna Tysdahl, Donna Westerling,   Absent was Ann Hermes.
Minutes: February minutes were not discussed or approved

Administrative Report:   no update

Financial Report:  Ann S presented the Year-to-Date statement of activity and snapshot of income and expenses. Debbie Ness clarified some of the numbers. Dave made a motion to approve, seconded by Shari. The motion was approved.


Old Business:
By-laws: Ann Smith – Proposed changes were discussed. The main topic is the change to the mission statement from: “The nature of its business shall be to develop and encourage an interest in the visual arts for the public at large, and to sponsor art exhibitions” to “Our Mission is to develop, promote, and encourage an interest in the arts”.  Additional proposed changes will be voted on at the April Meeting. All AOTL members will receive an email with the approved proposed changes two weeks before the annual meeting. The bylaws changes will be voted upon at the annual meeting in May.


New Business:
CAC Logo Proposal - Kristi Kuder presented her designs. Shari Prigge made a motion to approve the logo designs submitted by Kristi.  The motion was seconded; the motion was approved. Additional discussion continued about the need for signage to be developed for the CAC. Kristi will submit prices for signs to board members via email before the April Meeting. 


New staff member: Debbie Ness introduced MacKenna Tysdahl as an assistant to Gallery and CAC. She is a graduate of Battle Lake High School and a recent graduate of Grand Canyon University. Her salary will be paid by the MSAB grant. 


MSAB Grant: Battle Lake 3-6th grade students participated in Art Classes at CAC March 4-8 and 11-15 with the funds secured through the MSAB grant. Several AOTL art members assisted. A reception was held on March 15 for the students and parents. Classes in rock painting, wood burning, etc. were conducted during the reception. Refreshments were provided.


New Board Members - Kristi Kuder. Kristi presented names for new AOTL board members. An email will be sent to all AOTL members requesting nominations from the Battle Lake community as well as artist members. Current bylaws require a minimum of five members.  Mckenna Tysdahl proposed that a non-voting high school student member position be considered.
 
A discussion was held about board meeting times and days to accommodate various schedules. 


Committee Updates
Studio Tour - Judi Celaschi/ Shanna  
45 artists are registered including several new artists. Kristi discussed that restaurants sponsorships are being created with a $50 which will list them in the Studio Tour Map. 


Arts and Crats Affair: MacKenna created a post card to be sent out for the Arts and Crafts Affair to vendors. 


Workshops - Kristi Kuder/Shari Prigge 
Swedish Dahl Horse wood carving class on June 25, 
Fish carving for July or September, 
Sushi class with Mike from Shoreline. 
Shanna class with intro to painting at CAC on May 13. 
Katherine McDowell = clay class for Tweens 
Shari teaching an Intro to iPhone photography. Adults only. 
Wet felting class with Jill Beithon on April 26.
Meat smoking.
Master Gardening: Herbs and more


CAC: Dar Eckert is ready to move clay equipment to CAC.


Galloping Goose Proposal to use CAC Parking lot for Bike rentals:  Ann made a motion to allow Galloping Goose to use the CAC parking for bike rentals with a final location. Shari seconded. Motion approved.


Fundraising: Purse Bingo on May 10 at Thumper Pond. $5000 was secured from OT Lions to purchase purses and food. Sue Kalseim will be sending out more information and scheduling volunteers.


The motion to adjourn was made by David Bedow.




  • Pat McGovern, retired lawyer originally from California and Vanessa Sellner, glass artist, from Dalton (also completing an internship with John Oleson) ,Tracy Anderson. Petric VanErp, Kent Madson. Kate Mudge. Katie Johnson, Kate Scherrfenberg were board member suggestions
