Board Minutes Feb 2024

February 13, 2024, 10:00 am   -- Art of the Lakes Gallery
Our Mission is to develop, promote, and encourage an interest in the arts.
Board members present: Kristi Kuder, Judi Celaschi, Sue Kalseim, Ann Smith, and ex-officio members Shanna Cramer, Ann Hermes, and Debbie Ness.  Not attending: Sharii Prigge, Dave Beddow. 
Special guests were Kurt Maethner and Casey Love representing Galloping Goose.
The agenda for the meeting was approved.

Judi moved to approve the December 19th  minutes.  Seconded by Sue. Motion passed.

The Financial Report was presented by Ann S.  It was noted that to have workshop financials reported in the correct period, a clause will be added to workshop contracts that expenses must be submitted within 60 days. Sue moved to approve the financial report, seconded by Kristi.   Motion passed.

Kurt Maethner from Galloping Goose has requested using the CAC parking lot for a bike rental corral for which the need is about 20’ x 20’—arrangements to be discussed further. 
Casey Love of KC Lawn will submit a proposal for lawn service at the CAC, 112 W Main. KC Lawn has been the lawn service provider for the last few years on the property.

Administrative Report: Deb Ness was not available due to internet issues.
 
Old Business 
  • Mission Statement and Bylaws:
    • Updates will be proposed at the annual meeting in May. Ann S and Debbie are on the task force.
  • CAC 
    • The building lease with Sixteen Main: Bruce Furhman will be emailed to Board members for review and approval today.  
  • Exhibitions
    •  Fibre Expression, an exhibit of fiber art by area artists, is on display in the gallery until March 31. A reception will be held Saturday, Feb 17 from 4-6 pm. 

New  Business
  • CAC Rental Agreement: 
    • The Executive Committee of Kristi, Sue and Ann S will send the Board the suggested fee schedule for the use of space for their review and suggestions.
 
  • Ceramic Studio at CAC - 112 W Main: 
    • The floor has been refinished with epoxy. The new ceramic studio will be furnished with equipment donated by Dar Eckert in exchange for her ability to use the studio.  She is also willing to manage the space, which will be ready by April.
  • CAC Building Refurbishing Committee: 
    • Debbie N. and Donna W. will determine what is needed to make the CAC operational.   Sue is securing a bid for cleaning services. The city of Battle Lake asked Sue if public restrooms could be made available at the CAC. No decision was made.
  • Board Items: 
    • The Board has received the resignation from Mary Jo Wentz.  A search will be initiated for new board members. Ann H will send the Board a matrix of procedures for onboarding new board members. 
  • Bookkeeping:
    •  Ann S made a motion to hire Makenna Tysdal for 10 hours/week at $15/hour to assist with AOTL bookkeeping responsibilities beginning March 20. Sue seconded; the motion passed.    Debbie will provide a job description and make the offer to Makenna.

 Committee Updates 
  • Fundraising:  
    • Sue is coordinating the Designer Purse Bingo Fundraiser, tentatively scheduled for Saturday, May 11 at Stub’s in Battle Lake. Kristi and Sue will attend the Ottertail Lions Meeting on Feb 26 to request funding and assistance with Bingo.  Funds raised will be used to support a summer student art program.
  • Gallery: 
    • The Fiber Art Exhibit is on display until March 31.  The High School student exhibit will begin in April, and end on April 28.
    • New artwork for the summer retail season should be brought in the last week of April with a Gallery reopening on May 1. 
  • Studio Tour:  
    • Registration is open with a March 15 deadline.  Promotion is in progress.
  • Plein Aire: 
    • The PLPA registration site is completed and will be released this week.  Richard Abraham has committed to judging the event; the contract is pending.
  • Workshops: 
    • The committee is working on the summer schedule.

Next Board Meeting - March 12, 2024.  Ann moved to adjourn.
