Gallery Re-Opens May 6

Believe it or not, Spring is just around the corner, and the snow will melt soon. Here's everything you need to know about getting our gallery ready for a great 2023 season:

• April 24-26 Gallery Cleaning. Your help is needed! Contact Sue Kalseim to sign up.
• April 24 Art Pickup. Art that has been here more than two years needs to be picked up ASAP. If you're unable to pick up your art by this date, it will be brought to the basement.
• April 27 Art Drop-off. Bring fresh artwork for the new season starting on this date.
• Gallery Training (new or refresh). Contact Sandy and Dan Thimgan to arrange a session. Email them or call 218-371-5964.
• Displaying Artist Profile. Does your photo, bio or contact info need updating? Contact Shanna.
• Schedule Gallery Sitting. Set up your four volunteer shifts now.
• May 5 Gallery Re-Opens. Spring hours are Fridays and Saturdays, 11am - 5pm.

Creative Arts Center Updates

Our exciting new expansion space now has an official name: the Art Of The Lakes Creative Arts Center.

Creative Arts Center Input. If you haven't yet made your voice heard about what activities and events will best meet the needs and interests of our community, please take this short survey.

Call for Proposals. Art of the Lakes is seeking to commission an artist or artist team to create 25 original works of art. These pieces will become gifts of appreciation to donors supporting the AOTL Creative Arts Center. If your proposal is accepted, we'll pay you $625 and credit you in the gift. Proposals are due April 7 by 5pm. More information here.

​Workshops & Events!

What a Spring and Summer we have planned! Multiple events and workshops are available for members and non-members alike.

• Studio Tour. The deadline for artist registration has been extended to April 7. Please register here. The Tour runs July 14, 15 and 16, and is one of the largest rural art crawls in the Midwest.
• April & May Classes. Get creative with hardanger, family-oriented painting, zentangles and accordion books this Spring! Classes start April 12, with Mary Williams teaching hardanger, so act fast and register now.
• Paint a Kite. We're seeking member artists to contribute their talent to design and paint a kite as a promotional and fundraising effort for the Creative Arts Center. For $8 you can reserve a kite for this special opportunity to expand your creative horizon. Info and registration.
• Fly a Kite. June 24. There's no better way to celebrate the arrival of summer than to feel the slight tug of a kite as it dances across the sky. Bring a kite and friends and join in the fun on June 24 for the Kite Fun Fly at the Battle Lake High School football field.
• 2023 Prairie Lakes Plein Air. June 17 - September 29. The Prairie Lakes Plein Air art series is a festival of art education, exhibition, and competition open to professional and non-professional artists of all skill levels. Artist registration and a full list of events here.
• Art & Craft Affair.​ August 12, 9-4pm, Battle Lake. Display vendors will market creative, handmade, original arts and crafts. Fairgoers, of all ages and economic status, will have an opportunity to enjoy the event and discover items of interest for purchase. More info and vendor registration here.

In the Shallows​, Mary Jo Wentz

Trumpeter Swans in Flight, Tom Kuder

Mary Jo Wentz has two fiber art paintings in the M State 49th Annual Invitational Art Exhibit in Fergus Falls. The exhibit is showing from now through the reception on May 6, 2023 from 1-3. The public is invited.

Mary Jo also has one fiber art painting in the Fargo Moorhead Visual Artists Big Art Exhibition in the West Wing-West Acres in Fargo. The exhibit is for the month of April and the public reception is April 20, 2023 from 6-8. All are invited.

Tom Kuder is pleased to announce that more than 100 of his video recordings have been accepted for sale on three professional stock footage sites: Adobe Stock, Pond5 and Shutterstock. More information, a highlight reel and links to the sites can be found on Tom's business website.
